ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE
Under the direction of the Food Service Manager, responsible for the preparation of attractive and nutritional meals for residents. Ensures adequately trained staff and the cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment in accordance with specific standards and regulations.

BACKGROUND/QUALIFICATIONS
1) Completion of a chef training or culinary management diploma required. Red Seal Designation preferred.
2) A valid Food Handler’s Certificate.
3) A valid Employment Vulnerable Persons Police Reference Check within 6 months.
4) Experience in large quantity food preparation and cooking in Health, Long Term Care, or Retirement Residence is preferred.
5) Must be available to work for both shifts, early or late shift.
6) Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepares foods for residents in accordance with sanitation and safety regulations, the menu, and methods best suited for the nutritional   
   quality and appearance of the product.
• Directs and trains staff involved with food preparation area and equipment.
• Follows HACCP principles in food preparation, monitors and records food temperatures for hazardous items.
• Provides general supervision of the dietary operation when the food service manager is off duty.
• Prepares foods for special functions.
• Participates in and contributes to the Quality Improvement (QI) activities.
• Ensures residents receive correct diet order and food preferences.
• Puts away food products upon receiving, following proper storage procedures.
• Washes pots and cleans kitchen equipment and assigned area.
• Portions food from steam table.
• Complies with occupational Health and Safety Insurance Act and WHIMIS information system. This includes recognizing health and safety
   hazards, reporting incidents, fulfilling responsibilities under the applicable legislation, as well as participating in in-services and fire drills.
• Participates in staff meetings and educational in-services as required.
• Takes weekly inventory
• Weekend and shift work are required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Start Date: Immediately. Training will be provided.
