Malnutrition in Canadian Health care facilities and Why it matters to CSNM Members

Malnutrition is defined as the deficiency and/or imbalance of energy, protein and other nutrients.  It is estimated both internationally and in Canada that over 55% of all hospital and long term care patients are malnourished or at risk upon admission.

The Canadian Malnutrition Task Force (CMTF) is a group of clinicians, decision makers and investigators forming a standing committee of the Canadian Nutrition Society (CNS). The vision of CMTF is to advance nutrition care in patients through research, education and interdisciplinary collaboration in Canada. CMTF’s mandate also includes informing stakeholders and the public about the importance of optimal clinical nutrition care.

The webinar will outline the work that has been completed by the task force as well as work in progress and planned.  Information will be provided on what those in charge of food provision at Canadian health care facilities can do to assist in reducing malnutrition at their sites based on the barriers that have been identified through the CMTF work!
