Job Summary

This position is accountable to the General Manager, and is the primary liaison with the Registered Dietitian to ensure that comprehensive nutrition assessments are completed as required for all tenants. This position oversees the Nutrition and Food Services Department.  The Nutrition Services Manager is responsible for delivery of a nutritious and safe food service to the residents, visitors and staff. 

 

The position consists of 3 days/week admin and 2 days/week cooking.

 

The Nutritional Services manager will participate as a member of the Management Team and meet regularly to discuss, plan, implement and evaluate all facility operations.

 

The Nutritional Services manager, in consultation and direction from the General Manager / Registered Dietitian, ensures the development and implementation of policies and procedures to facilitate the achievement of high quality standards of service.

 

Also responsible for ensuring resident well being and safety.

 

 Qualifications

  • Completion of a Food Service Nutrition Management Certificate, from a recognized educational facility
  • Red Seal Chef
  • Membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
  • Ability to provide leadership in the development of nutritional standards
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent oral and written English skills
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate work assignments
  • Experience and sincere interest in a residential setting
  • Outstanding problem-solving, prioritization and time management capabilities
  • Proficient with computers

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchases and maintains inventory control of food and other supplies.
  • Planning and organization of food service for special events.
  • Reviews and follows up on nutritional assessments from the Registered Dietitian for new residents upon admission and reassessments as changes occur.
  • In consultation with the Registered Dietitian, identifies resident needs for texture modified diets and food preferences as required.
  • Regularly liaises with resident/families, staff, and management to foster a holistic approach to care and services rendered.
  • Menu planning is done in consultation with the Registered Dietitian. Ensures menus are communicated and delivered according to standards for residential care facilities.
  • Collaborates with other professional staff to perform audits and evaluate “at risk” data to improve the nutritional status of residents.
  • Liaises with facility staff to monitor meal service and resident acceptance.
  • In consultation with the General Manager is responsible for recruitment, hiring, supervision and evaluation of dietary staff.
  • Facilitates orientation of new staff and conducts regular performance evaluations.
  • Assesses ongoing in-service/training needs of dietary staff and communicates educational needs to the appropriate resource person.
  • Provides day-to-day support, coaching and guidance to dietary staff in the provision of high quality service.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • Good working knowledge of provincial legislation and programs to promote compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Skill and ability to utilize effective adapted communication techniques, social and interpersonal skills with residents, staff and others to adequately meet the needs of the residents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously to develop and foster a team approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Possess a high standard of personal hygiene and grooming.
  • Evidence of good physical, psychological and emotional health and the capability to handle the demands of the job.
