Spring – buyers guide edition

Spring is upon us and a new year for CSNM is about to begin!

This year CSNM decided to collaborate with the Gerontology Network of the Dietitians of Canada to hold the annual conference and the Annual General Meeting, May 9 and 10, in Toronto.   As you read this, I am hoping you are registered to attend as it hopes to be a great learning event as well as a time to network with others in our industry.

As I close out my year as President, there have been a number of accomplishments by the board.  The goals of each of the portfolios have been met and each of the provincial chapters are holding successful events.   All committees have done great work with the assistance of member volunteers.

Marketing has been a focus for this year and you have seen some of the results.   Our branding has enabled the communication to look consistent and professional.  The e-news is personalized with your current continuing education points. The e-blasts communicate pertinent information that is important for you to know.   ( If you don’t have an email address, it is very important for you to have one to receive up-to-date information.)  The website has undergone a refreshing, making it easier to navigate and giving it a new look.  There are also member benefits – Perkopolis and the Nutrition Action Newsletter on the “Members Only” website for you to use.

Social media is moving into the forefront.  In particular, our student members are very interested in being connected with Facebook and LinkedIn.  “Like” the Facebook page and/or join the LinkedIn group to see what is happening in the nutrition management virtual world.

The Advocacy committee has started us moving in the direction of promoting our profession at significant events nationally and provincially.  The board members are attending provincial events to be visible to answer questions and network with our members.  It’s a great time to be involved as we continue to be proud of who we are.

Our member numbers at the end of the 2012-13 year has grown to 2812 active members, 266 student members, 8 honorary/ life members, 13 corporate members and 60 Certified Nutrition Managers.  Every year we continue to increase these numbers.

It has been a year of growth and I would personally like to thank the board for their commitment to the profession and CSNM.   As well, the companies we work closely with - Bond Executive Office Services and Cutting Edge Communications are always there for us to do the best we can.    Looking forward to another great year ahead!
