About Provincial Chapters and becoming a Provincial Representative on the CSNM Board

Queries have come forth recently regarding either forming a provincial chapter of CSNM or re-activating a chapter that has been previously formed.

There is a difference in processes between the two. If a province wishes to activate a new provincial chapter, the bylaws state that "The Board of Directors may form Provincial Chapters. Provincial Chapters may only be formed after approval of the Board of Directors of the Society of an application made on behalf of members in that Province or Territory. With any provincial chapter of CSNM, no provincial chapter shall not, without prior written consent of the Board of Directors of the Society, engage in any activity or undertaking, which may be considered by the public to represent CSNM".

If a provincial chapter has been formed, but has been inactive for a period of time, and wishes to reactivate the chapter; there are two different procedures. If a provincial chapter of CSNM had to discontinued and applied to the office in writing that two thirds of the membership had wished to disassemble, the province needs to follow the above process in the formation of a provincial chapter.

If a provincial chapter has been formed, but has been inactive for a period of time and wishes to reactivate the chapter, the person wishing to reactivate the chapter must apply in writing to the Executive as to their intent. The letter must be accompanied by three (3) letters of support from that province. The letters must be from three (3) provincial members who are active members in good standing of CSNM. Provincial representatives are appointed by each province at the time of the CSNM Board of Directors election of officers. Each provincial representative must be an active member of a Provincial Chapter and prior to acceptance, an Active member of CSNM. Only active members shall have the right to vote or hold office within the Chapter and serve on the CSNM Board of Directors. Provincial representatives are bound of the duties in the terms of reference of the policy and procedure manual of the Society.
