The typical duties and responsibilities of a Food Services Supervisor include:
• Supervises designated staff by scheduling and co-ordinating work assignments, determining related training and orientation    
   requirements, and providing feedback to employees.
• In consultation with the Clinical Dietician, plans menus and develops recipes according to nutritional and therapeutic diet needs
   of the patients/residents.
• Estimates food requirements, and orders and receives supplies and resolves discrepancies with suppliers.
• Visits patients/residents and/or family members to obtain and exchange diet-related information.
• Monitors expenditures for assigned areas; makes recommendations regarding budget allocations and resolves discrepancies for
   the assigned areas.
• Evaluates meals being served to ensure established standards of quality and quantity are maintained.
• Coordinates meal preparation, pricing and other related duties for community based services such as Meals on Wheels
• Assists in co-ordinating and maintaining facility in-house services by coordinating cafeteria services including pricing, staffing
  allotment, coordinating closure of cafeteria and securing money upon closure.
• Performs recommended audits to ensure that established food service and quality assurance standards are met.
• Monitors the storage of food, supplies and related items.

Hours of work: 05:15 to 13:45, 05:15 to 12:15, 10:30 to 19:00, 12:00 to 19:00

This is a Casual opportunity. Casual means there are no guaranteed hours and work requirements can vary from 0 - 37.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

 

Food Management Career Track:

This career track is inclusive of management roles in Concessions, Catering, Retail, and Hospitality. An A2L participant in this career track will bring to life the customer’s food experience with the ability to respond effectively to changing client demands. The A2L will be responsible for ensuring that requirements for appropriate sanitation, waste and food safety levels in respective areas are met. They will also coordinate and supervise unit personnel regarding production, merchandising, quality and cost control, labor scheduling, staffing, employee training and ensuring exceptional customer experiences. The A2L will perform other functions as required, such as maintaining records to comply with Aramark, government and accrediting agency standards.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required, concentration in Nutrition preferred. Dietitian or CSNM certification an asset.  (Must graduate between 2016 – August 2018 to be eligible for the FY18 A2L Program)
  • The start date for this program would be July, 2018.
  • All degree requirements must be completed prior to the start date of the program (including any final internship requirements).  
  • A minimum of 6 months of work experience; including internship/co-op experience.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required.
  • Leadership skills, inclusive of supervisory responsibilities, team lead in a club/organization, and/or project management.
  • The ability to communicate in an appropriate, clear, and concise manner with customers, clients, employees and leadership.

  • Develops annual goals and objectives for the Food and Nutrition department;
  • Responsible for hiring of departmental staff, plans and implements orientation, staff training and in-service education to staff according to needs of the home and regulatory body standards;
  • Ensure that optimal safety standards are maintained by all Food and Nutrition department employees;
  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance. This includes the completion of annual Performance Appraisals, Staff Appreciation and/or Progressive discipline measures where required.

 

The ideal candidates will possess:

 

  • Diploma in Food and Nutrition Management from a recognized program;
  • Must be an active Member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management or a Registered Dietitian;
  • Current provincial Safe Food Handling Certificate;
  • Previous professional experience in a health care setting an asset;

Job Summary

In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA, and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Under the supervision of the Coordinator, Formula Room and Milk Handling Room, the technician handles, labels, stores, prepares, and distributes human milk to inpatients in the BC Women’s Hospital NICU using safe food handling techniques and established safe milk management procedures. The technician also prepares human milk, and infant, enteral and metabolic formula to match the Nutrition Orders as required. All feeds are prepared according to the Guidelines for the Preparation of Human Milk and Formula in Health Care Facilities.

Duties

1. Maintains strict adherence to aseptic procedures, Food Safe guidelines, and safety practices and procedures related to           
    the handling of human milk, and the handling and preparation of infant, enteral and metabolic formula, including following the
    Guidelines for the Preparation of Human Milk and Formula in Health Care Facilities.

2. Prepares all infant and enteral formula and human milk feeds, with or without added nutrition products by preparing and
    portioning into aliquots for feeding by nurses at the patient bedside as per the Nutrition Order and in accordance with
    established guidelines, policies, procedures and standards.

3. Collects human milk from NICU for labelling, storage and preparation with added nutrition products. Delivers human milk and
    formula to clinical areas as appropriate according to established safety standards; rotates and/or removes expired products.

4. Receives and reviews new and existing Nutrition Orders. Uses the appropriate software technology to calculate or manually
    calculates amount of nutrition products to be added to human milk, or amount of product to prepare infant, enteral or
    metabolic formula required to achieve Nutrition Order. Verifies accuracy utilizing mathematical calculations as required.

5. Cleans and sanitizes work area daily according to established procedures to ensure that aseptic conditions are maintained,
    including the preparation space and equipment required for the labelling, handling, preparation and storage of human milk.
    Performs additional cleaning tasks as per schedule and following standardized procedures and protocols to maintain an aseptic
    environment.

6. Operates equipment including hot water dispenser, blender, dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer required for storage and
    preparation of human milk, infant, enteral or metabolic formula according to established procedures and protocols to maintain
    an aseptic environment.

7. Monitors equipment function and maintains data for audits, including but not limited to temperature logs of area dishwasher,
    refrigerator and freezers according to established standards. Escalates to supervisor for direction when values are out of
    acceptable range and takes corrective action as directed. Reports equipment malfunctions to maintenance and the supervisor
    immediately.

8. Communicates with clinical staff regarding formula and human milk inventory management, such as alerting nursing staff of
    EBM shortages and requesting alternative Nutrition Orders if human milk is not available.

9. Prepares human milk in inventory for patient discharge or transfer.

10. Clarifies Nutrition Orders as required, e.g., when orders are outside of expected parameters according to nutrition standards
      and protocols. Communicates with prescriber regarding the order and requests adjustment of the prescriber’s order as
      required.

11. Answers general enquiries about human milk inventory management, and availability/delivery or patient specific orders for
      human milk and nutrition products. Escalates clinical enquiries to the unit dietitian or coordinator as required. Maintains
      telephone log by recording telephone calls and enquiries in detail.

12. Maintains database of patient Nutrition Orders using milk management technology and software applications by methods
      such as operating handheld milk barcoding devices to scan milk into or out of inventory, entering final volumes into milk
      management software, and printing milk barcoding labels after milk preparation.

13. Contacts BC Women's Hospital Provincial Milk Bank Technicians to manage pasteurized donor human milk inventory and
      requirements.

14. Maintains files on distribution of pasteurized donor human milk as per hospital policy. Provides information to the BC
      Women's Hospital Provincial Milk Bank for statistical purposes as requested by the supervisor.

Overview:
Currently we are looking for Part Time Patient, Food Service Supervisors (FSS) to help deliver the best services at an Acute Care/Hospital in Woodstock.

Duties:
The Supervisor will assist in delivering best results and will be involved in all aspects of the patient food services operations, including purchasing, production, assembly, distribution, and sanitation. Incumbent will plan, organize, direct and control the activities of the department, establishing and maintaining standards of quality of services. S/he will assist with managing personnel, food and equipment costs and will delegate responsibilities and duties to others in the department. Also, they will assist in the training of staff, implementing and managing performance improvement program. The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination of inventory and procurement for the patient food services department, ensuring also purchased products meet specifications. FSS will oversee the implementation and maintenance of the healthcare food services IT system.

• Excellent customers and clients relationship skills
• Food and Nutrition Management Diploma from an approved Community College and/or university degree in Food
   Service and Nutrition.

Candidates are invited to apply for the above full-time position to work at our 242 bed long-term care facility, located in Ottawa, Ontario.

Reporting to the site Administrator, the Dietary Manager is accountable for all aspects of dietary services within the home to meet the nutritional needs of residents, and to ensure the effective and efficient preparation and delivery of food to the residents.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, organize, and provide high quality dietary services for residents of each facility.
  • Apply continuous quality improvement principles, best practice, and standardization to workflow, performance, production and changes to service and dietary requirements to meet legislative requirements.
  • Select, supervise and motivate dietary staff; ensure dietary staff works as a team, ensure high level of productivity and best use of staff capabilities.
  • Ensure environment of all food preparation and storage areas meets Public Health requirements.
  • Maintain all records in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements, including the implementation and posting of all regular and therapeutic menus.
  • Liaise and consult with residents, families, team members, government officials, and professionals in relation to resident care needs and department activities
  • Participate in the budgeting process; is accountable for the departmental budget and food costs.
  • As part of the homes management team assist in planning and implementing overall operations of the home

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current membership in the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (C.S.N.M.) or a Registered Dietician required
  • Post-secondary education in dietary management and the successful completion of a recognized Food Services Program.
  • Minimum 2 years dietary management experience in long-term care setting.
  • Member of a recognized Food Service Supervisor’s Association.
  • Strong leadership skills to direct the work of employees.
  • Superb organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.
