Dietary Consultant - Mississauga, ON

The Consultant, Resident Care and Services, Dietary is responsible for the overall organization of dietary services in keeping with the Nursing Home Act requirements, the Program Standards for long term care facilities and other legislation affecting the operation of a Long Term Care Home.

 

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

 

  • Dietary compliance requirements of the Nursing Home Act, the Program Standards for Long Term Care facilities, and other legislation affecting the operation of the LTC
  • Maintenance of Dietary raw food cost within the approved budget as regulated by the Ministry of Health
  • Ensure the appropriate management and record keeping systems are maintained to ensure efficient and effective operation of the dietary department.
  • Ensure the dietary staffing levels are maintained according to the Ministry Standards.
  • Identifying and resolving problems, and recommending changes to improve Dietary service delivery to the residents.
  • Coordinating the Dietary aspect of Home functions with other Departments
  • Acting as a leader and resource to Food Nutrition Managers and significant others in planning/determining food production and meal service needs.
  • Assist in creating/reviewing corporate menus as required and provide feedback to the corporate dietitian.
  • Providing resource support to the Food Nutrition Managers when “individualizing menu” to meet the needs of their residents.
  • Evaluating product quality and developing food specifications in collaboration with other Dietary Consultants, Food Nutrition Managers and Cooks.
  • Ensure mandatory education including dietary specific topics are scheduled and completed throughout the year
  • Developing and providing education to the Food Nutrition Managers and Cooks to promote pleasurable Dining for residents
  • Acting as a resource to evaluate the quality of service, and offer recommendations to improve Dietary service delivery to the residents.
  • Visit each home on a scheduled basis and evaluate the departments effectiveness, compliance with the set standards, policies and procedures; review and assess dietary documentation in the residents clinical records and conduct special audits.
  • Communicate and review the areas of concern with the department manager and the Administrator
  • Assist in the coordination, development and maintenance of the policy and procedures manual
  • Review Ministry inspection reports and assists the homes in the development of corrective action plans of areas of non-compliance
  • Attend meetings and participate in decision making at the senior corporate level
  • Participate in the recruitment and orientation of the Food Nutrition Managers
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Compliance and Performance

 

The ideal candidates will possess:

  • Must have sound knowledge and background in geriatric care; Nursing Home Act and Program Standards for long term care and other legislative standards.
  • An understanding of the basics of good sanitation and food handling techniques to avoid infection or contagious diseases                  
  • Must be a graduate of Food Service Management Program and a member of CSNM
  • Red Seal Cooks qualification preferred
  • Food Safe Certification (Advanced)  
  • Must have ten(10) years experience in organizational management of dietary services in long term care.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to implement effective strategic goals.
  • Proficient Computer skills.
  • Ability to work with other departments to ensure seamless service to residents.
  • Must possess excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Must have the ability to effectively plan, organize and evaluate the delivery of dietary services to the residents
