The Volunteer’s Role
 
In collaboration with the Regional Health Management Team-Kigoma, CHMT and Hospital Management, will take the lead in the design of all specialist neonatology and pediatric medical services at Kigoma Maweni Regional Referral hospital and strengthen services at district/local level health facilities.

Placement objectives:
- Give technical advice to health workers and RHMT on potential involvement in new nutrition interventions and internal
   nutrition capacity for implementation.
- Define appropriate policies, guidelines and protocols for nutritional aspects of our work in the region.
- Support the carrying out of regular monitoring visits in conjunction with other field personnel, ensuring that project
  objectives are met with recognized international standards.
- Support, and monitor the development of reporting systems for data collection (qualitative and quantitative), analysis
   and follow-up.
- Provide technical advice to project manager and field staff on integrating Behavior Change Communication (BCC) into
   health and nutrition program activities, support staff in identification and analysis of behavior change barriers and adapt
   the project accordingly. Also, oversee selection, development and piloting of Info, education & Communication (IEC) materials
   (as needed) and BCC training for staff.

As a volunteer, you will:
- Engage with the community to educate them about RMNCH specifically on breastfeeding and child, and maternal/adult nutrition
- Support in the development of communication with political, administrative and community leaders on nutrition matters
- With support from Regional Nutritional Officer, take leadership in training the community health workers reach out to the
   community with key nutrition messages
- Coordinate with Environmental health and sanitation advisor and health workers to ensure complementary BCC program activities
- Provide technical support to nutrition teams in all project sites, including the evaluation and impact analysis of current projects
   & provide input into the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability

Essential Academic Qualifications:
Degree in Nutrition/food science or related field

Essential Professional Background:
- At least 2 years’ experience in the field
- Experience in conducting workshops, training and seminars

Terms and Conditions
 
Cuso International terms and conditions allow you to lead a modest and healthy lifestyle while being effective in your placement. This support package will cover basic living expenses for one volunteer and is not intended to cover home-based expenses (ex. loans, support payments, etc.) or luxury items such as imported items in placement or international personal travel.

- Cuso International assessment day (Candidates must cover the first $200 of the most cost-effective travel expenses
   and all accommodation costs).
- Travel and accommodation for the five-day pre-departure training course and for in-country orientation
 
 
Residency and Citizenship  
 
Residency
The majority of Cuso International volunteer applicants are residing in Canada at the time of application and during the pre-departure process. Occasionally we received applications from volunteer applicants who are residing outside of Canada at the time of application. In both instances, between your application date and placement start date, we must be able to contact you and you must be able to contact us easily and promptly throughout the process.

We may require your passport and would need to be aware of your current place of residence and any travel plans you may have during this time. You will also require unrestricted access to Canada during this time for assessment and training, as applicable.
 
Citizenship
Leaving your country of residence can have significant effects on your citizenship status in that country. It is your responsibility to research the consequences of travelling to Canada during the pre-departure process if you are living outside of Canada and of leaving your country of residence for a placement with the immigration authority where you live.
By applying to this placement, you accept full responsibility for any consequences related to your citizenship, residency and immigration status or penalties as a result of travel to an assessment day, training course, international placement or other Cuso International related travel.

You  must  check the implications that apply to you, but examples include:
•    Canadian permanent residents may need to make arrangements with immigration authorities before travelling. These
      arrangements allow them to travel without risk to their status in Canada. Without them, residency status may be withdrawn.
•    Citizens of other countries, including those visiting Canada on a visa, may have travel restrictions.
